There is always a lot to see and listen to when the taxi man turns on the radio. Feuds between personalities have not been restrictive at all. Some acclaimed men of God even find themselves entangled with that. Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams vrs Lydia Forson was more or less like a feministic-misogynistic battle but the recent edition of celebrity feuds in Ghana lies in the hands of another pastor and a blatant comedian. Afia Schwarzenegger and Bishop Daniel Obinim have been able to disregard the fast spreading nature of today’s information system. Probably, they see the benefits of gimmicks. For sometime now, videos of insults from both parties have been circulating. This is however related to the least you’d expect, the controversy started once more but out of a natural resource, cocoa.
The parody site, ScrewLife recently relayed an information to the public containing the detail that the founder of the International God’s Way Church does not consume cocoa with respect to the 8th commandment carved in stone to Moses on the Mount of Sinai. In a post titled “Bishop Obinim Says It’ s A SIN to Drink Milo or Eat Any Cocoa Product Because Tetteh Quarshie Was A Thief Who Stole the First Cocoa Seeds” the satirical site wrote;
The Bible says “for the wages of sin is death” and as such Ghana’s most religious man of God-Bishop Daniel Obinim wants to live by every single commandment of God—except perhaps when it comes to bending his junior pastor’s wife over for straight shot from behind. In fact, one of the ten important commandments of God says “thou shall not steal”—and in the great Bishop’s estimation, profiting from a stolen product in itself amounts to stealing. In law, it’s a crime to consume or buy a product which you know had been stolen—and therefore, it’s reasonable that doing so under God’s mighty jurisdiction would be considered a sin too. For this reason, ScrewLife.Com has been told that Bishop Obinim does not drink MILO or eat any cocoa product including chocolates. And his argument is purely theological; that the first man who brought cocoa seeds to Ghana-Tetteh Quarshie was a thief who stole the first cocoa seeds from Spanish colony Fernando Po (now Bioko in Equatorial Guinea). For this reason, anyone who drinks MILO or consumes any cocoa product from Ghana, the lineage of Tetteh Quarshie’s stolen seeds is heading straight to hell—because such a person will be regarded as thief in the sight of God. But there’s a small hole of redemption for everyone; which is, to confess your sins and repent—and never to eat any cocoa product again.
Afia’s reaction to this was expected. As usual she posted 3 videos (Video 1, Video 2, Video 3 ) on Instagram sharing her views on the issue. Below is a translation from twi to english on what she said.
“Are Ghanaians waiting for Obinim to shoot Mahama in the head before they realise his insanity? Obinim has a mental illness, Ghanaians should be careful of him, if not they’ll wake up one day to see on the news that Obinim has murdered his wife, Florence out of madness. But for the very first time, I agree with Obinim. Why will a pastor like to be associated with stolen property? There is wisdom with him not drinking Milo or eating Chocolate but I will drink and enjoy Milo. Can’t you see the fun I’m enjoying in the new car I bought? He does not take cocoa products because they were stolen by Tetteh-Quarshie but he also never hesitates to take offertory, gives false prophecies and extorts money from people.”
